    Event description

This conference follows on from the Engaging Middle School conference that was run in term 1 by some Alliances and SASPA, that featured Case Studies from four large High Schools and information from the Flexible Learning Team. Whilst the conference was excellent (and sold out), what became evident was that many of the ideas/strategies that were being put in place by the large High Schools were beyond the scale and size that most Area and smaller High School could adopt. There was lots of interest at the end of the conference from smaller schools to have a similar conference focussed on smaller sites – so SAASLA has taken this on and developed this conference with a main aim to cater for smaller schools. (Large High Schools are welcome).

ENGAGING MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS conference agenda:

    • We believe all secondary schools are trying something to improve engagement of their secondary students - the morning conference session will be focussed on Sharing of Practice between sites - sharing what they are doing, however big or small, and collecting new engagement ideas/strategies to bring back to their sites.

There will also be input during the day from a number of Departmental Divisions/Teams:

    • Dr Julia Aitken and Teaching and Learning Team - Engaging Middle School students through the SA Curriculum
    • Pathways Team - Engaging Middle School student through Careers Awareness and other Pathways learning
    • Flexible Learning Team - How can Flexible Learning be used to engage Middle School Students in small sites, what options do sites have if they are too small for a FLO program?

The conference is limited to 80 places, so please give this some consideration and book early.
