Engaging more deeply with what it means to be Tangata Tiriti in Aotearoa

Event description

The purpose of this two-day programme is to create a safe space for Asian arts practitioners to deepen their understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (1840) and He Whakaputanga o te Rangatiratanga o Nu Tireni (1835) and the history of colonial violations of Te Tiriti and Māori resistance to colonialism. It’s a chance to think through and more deeply understand the rights and responsibilities that we, as Tangata Tiriti, have in Aotearoa — and how that might show up in the work we do as artists and arts administrators. We define Tangata Tiriti as inclusive of all those who call Aotearoa home –  Pākehā and Tauiwi.

We aim to provide a space that is also conscious and attentive to the varied relationships to colonialism within Asian communities.

This is a two-day workshop and we will run it twice. You can sign up to attend either:
Workshop 1: Saturday 6th July and Sunday 7th July OR Workshop 2: Saturday 20th July and Sunday 21st July.

    • Day 1 of the workshops 9.00am - 4.30pm
    • Day 2 of the workshops 10.00am - 3.00pm

The workshop will be run by Kirsty Fong (Asians Supporting Tino Rangatiratanga) and co-faciliated by Tāwhana Chadwick (Kūwaha Ltd.) on the first day. Participants need to commit to both sessions to get the most out of this opportunity.

This venue is wheelchair friendly and has an accessible toilet. There is plenty of paid street parking nearby. It is also within walking distance of several bus stops along Ponsonby Road, Karangahape Road, and Great North Road.
