English Sacred Choral Music Concert
Event description
Auckland's Cantorum Chamber Choir invite you to a concert celebrating English Sacred Choral Music from the 16th to the 20th Centuries. The programme focuses on Byrd’s Mass for Four Voices which was written during the reign of Elizabeth I in 1592 or shortly thereafter. This deeply personal setting of the Catholic mass was one or three composed by Byrd during the time of the English Reformation and would have been used in secret at the private homes of his Catholic patrons.
We also sing some later anthems from the Victorian, Edwardian and Elizabethan II eras, accompanied by organist Michael Bell. The choir will be led by Music Director Anita Banbury and Assistant Director Cameron McConchie
