Enhancing AOD Responses in DFV Settings: Queensland Sector Consultation Session (Online) - October 2026

Mon, 5 Oct, 11pm - Tue, 6 Oct, 1am EDT

Description

WorkUP Queensland with support from the Queensland Mental Health Commission will be exploring an emerging practice challenge: supporting people whose experiences of domestic, family and sexual violence intersect with alcohol and other drug use. Across Queensland, practitioners are already responding to these complex situations, often navigating multiple service systems, competing risks and differing practice frameworks.

These consultation sessions are an opportunity for practitioners, leaders and sector stakeholders to share what is already working, where challenges exist, and what supports would genuinely strengthen practice. Insights gathered through consultation will help inform future workforce development activities, resources and opportunities to strengthen collaboration across the DFV and AOD sectors.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will:

  • Contribute their experience and expertise regarding situations where AOD use and DFV intersect.

  • Identify strengths, resources and effective practices currently being used across Queensland.

  • Discuss workforce capability needs, challenges and opportunities for improvement.

  • Explore organisational and system factors that influence service responses.

  • Share ideas for strengthening collaboration between DFV and AOD services

  • Help shape future project activities, resources and workforce development initiatives.
