Event description
The 3-hr Enhancing Financial Acumen online workshop will introduce participants to key financial concepts, the main financial statements and how to analyse and interpret this information. The discussion sessions are designed to enhance confidence with the numbers, by understanding common accounting and finance terminology and to be able to use the financial information to assist in making informed decisions. The specific key learning objectives for workshop participants are to:
• Reinforce key underpinning finance principles & assumptions.
• Enhance confidence in reading and interpreting financial information.
• Examine the relationships between key financial statements (i.e., income statement, balance sheet, & cash flow statement).
• Explain how the information contained in the financial reports can be analysed and interpreted to identify issues of concern & enable informed decision making.
• Examine the purpose and nature of key financial performance indicators.

About the presenter: Dr John Sing
Dr John Sing has an extensive background in public and private sector financial management at senior levels, and runs his own consultancy practice undertaking large financial and governance related projects. John is an experienced professional development trainer, and has conducted numerous management, leadership, risk, financial and project management related courses for both private and public sector organizations in Australia, North America Europe and Asia Pacific, as well as being an experienced AICD trainer. He was recruited to industry after having been a full-time academic where he has researched and taught at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the domains of financial accounting, auditing, project, and risk management. John holds a PhD in Business Administration and masters level qualifications in accounting.
