ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
EnQueer | Sydney Queer Writers’ Festival aims to bring together people of all genders, sexualities, ethnicities, disabilities, faiths, cultures, and backgrounds at a literary forum which appreciates and acknowledges the power of diversity. Stories and experiences of people with diverse backgrounds truly reflect modern Australian values and the festival seeks to bring them to the fore.
2020 was the best of times for reading, it was the worst of times for writers. Especially for new and upco ming writers who were denied the opportunities to spaces where their work could be showcased and supported. Through the writers’ festival, we aim to provide a new intellectual and communal space for queer communities to discuss, debate, inform and be informed of the arts.
The festival is a two-day event, held via livestream and online. It comprises themed panel sessions, one-on-one conversations and a workshop for emerging queer writers, with a focus on mixing established and emerging voices. It will discuss prevalent themes in queer writing, experiences of queer writers and dissect overarching queer themes in literature such as the understanding of intersectionality and the importance of representation, bringing all kinds of people together to celebrate queer culture.
