Ensemble Antiqua: A Touch of Eastern Europe
Event description
Ensemble Antiqua, consisting of Llewellyn Negrin (recorder), Christine Akerman (baroque violin), Tim Lowe (guitar) and Alexander Rodrigues (spinet and voice) present ‘A Touch of Eastern Europe’ on period instruments.
On the program will be Vivaldi’s concerto RV93 which was composed while he was in Prague and is thought to exhibit characteristics of Bohemian folk music while Gottfried Finger (composer of air anglaise which we will be playing on guitar and recorder) was born in Moravia (now part of the Czech Republic). Telemann was influenced by Polish folk music and the concerto that we will perform originally included the calchedon (bass lute) which was commonly used in Polish and Bohemian musical circles. Finally, the concerto by Falckenhagen (for recorder and guitar) has a movement which is based on the Polonaise – a Polish folk dance.
