Environmental effects of urban expansion
Event description
Canberra’s suburbs are sprawling ever further westwards in response to the demands of a growing city and the need for new housing. However, as a report from the ACT Commission for Sustainability and the Environment shows, this all comes with significant environmental destruction. The report argues that the environment is ‘in a relentless state of decline’ with environmental destruction ‘accepted as a “sad and unfortunate reality”’. This doesn’t have to be the case though. Join us for a briefing and discussion on the report and how we can do things differently.
Speakers:
Dr Maxine Cooper ACT Commissioner for Sustainability and the Environment
