Ernest Aines: Slow Roll (Carmel-By-The-Sea, CA)
Description
In 2023, Ernest Aines was nominated Australian Folk Artist of the Year — an award-winning alt folk/Americana singer-songwriter from Naarm/Melbourne whose soulful voice and lyrical expressionism draw comparisons to Ray LaMontagne, Bon Iver, Jeff Buckley and, on more recent releases, Nick Drake.
Considered by industry folk to be Australia's folk rising star, he was invited to play at the world's largest and most prestigious folk conference, Folk Alliance International in Kansas City, Missouri, and represented Sounds Australia at the Library of Congress invite show, where he wowed audiences and received standing ovations.
After his official showcase at FAI 2023, American folk legend and Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Tom Paxton congratulated him, shaking him by the shoulders and exclaiming, "Where have you been!! Keep doing this, keep doing this!" Van Dyke Parks has called Ernest Aines a "giant, lyrically and musically." He was also shortlisted for Womex 2023 — something Sounds Australia called an incredible achievement.
He has since released his debut album, Spiral Bound, to critical acclaim.
