Workshop notes Influenced by 1960’s pop artist - Claes Oldenburg, Genevieve and Bill created an invigorating two day immersive workshop learning about endangered bird species of the Central West NSW. Participants developed ideas through drawing, wet collodion photography culminating with an outcome of collective performance and sculpture. Participants will learn to scale up drawings into large sculptures, creating an immersive environment that reflects natural and man made habitats ideated as abstract concepts.

7:00pm - 8:00pm | Open air session | Wiradjuri night stories | with Doug Sutherland [please wear warm clothes, we will have open fires located near talk] About Ian Sutherland, also known as "Dougie" around the community, is a proud Wiradjuri and Gamilaraay man living in Orange, NSW. Doug holds a vast knowledge of the night sky and is considered one of the few people who can read the maps and tell the stories of the night sky in Wiradjuri Country. This deep cultural knowledge was passed down to him from previous generations. Doug shares with us what the stars mean for Wiradjuri people, and how they would use the maps in the sky to follow the seasons, and times to hunt and gather’ words attribution - Common Ground First Nations. Dougie was a Key contributor to Orange Regional Museum’s celebrated exhibition ‘Mulaa Giilang: Wiradjuri stories of the night sky’ and was the winner of Best Exhibition at the 2023 National Trust Australia (NSW) Heritage awards.

Donations will be strategically allocated to ensure the success, accessibility, and long-term impact of ERTHWRX25 and ERTHWRX26. Key areas of funding distribution include: Expert Engagement & Programming – Supporting the participation of scientists, cultural knowledge holders, artists, architects, ecologists, and academics through honorariums, travel assistance, and workshop facilitation costs. Community Accessibility & Outreach – Covering costs for inclusive community engagement, ensuring free or subsidised participation youth under 18yrs, and First Nations communities. Infrastructure & Logistics – Funding venue exhibition support with technical equipment, exhibition materials, and workshop resources to facilitate hands-on learning and immersive experiences. Cultural Sensitivity & First Nations Consultation – Providing support for Elders, cultural advisors, and Indigenous-led initiatives to ensure respectful and meaningful engagement with Wiradjuri communities, participants and audiences. Environmental Sustainability Measures – Investing in sustainable materials, minimising waste, and integrating renewable energy solutions to align with the event’s ecological principles. Documentation & Knowledge Sharing – Supporting the creation of impact reports, digital resources, and follow-up publications to extend the reach and legacy of the discussions and innovations explored during the programs.
