Acid Wash
Description
Join the Conservatorium's saxophone ensembles as they perform in their end of semester concert!
Super Sax, a subset of our larger saxophone community plays jazz. You will hear cool, Latin and modal music from the later twentieth century. Featuring well know composers and performers like Herbie Hancock through to lesser-known artists (but personal favourites) such as Clare Fischer. This music gives us a range of styles to improvise and get our groove on. Life would not be complete without a nod to Charlie Parker, so we wrap up with Bird's version of Just Friends arranged for the band that started this sound, Supersax (1972 – 1988).
The saxophone studio of the Melbourne Conservatorium present Acid Wash — an evening of bold contemporary music, including four world premieres by Australian composers. United by themes of environment, human connection and transformation, the program explores plastic consumption in Jenni Watson’s 7 Day Total, the ecological impact of ocean waste in Joonwoo Kim’s Jetsam, and the changing health of marine ecosystems in Lewis Ingham’s Acidic Oceans. Hayden Taylor’s Asynchron-city reflects the hidden patterns that shape urban life, and Sam Williams’ Incognito Armadillo brings a contrasting spirit of mystery and imagination. Completing the program, Philippe Geiss’s Branora showcases the colour, energy and versatility of the saxophone ensemble.
