A story of finding friendship and the courage to grow, this award-winning, interactive visual theatre show, part performance, part game, part celebration, captures all the joy, excitement and concerns of twins and a sixth birthday one of them doesn’t want to have. Through play, music, and thoughtful audience participation, children step into the story as active co-creators, experiencing the ups and downs alongside the twins as they navigate big feelings, learn to embrace their differences, celebrate friendship, and find the courage to grow. Kids will have the chance to further deepen their Especially on Birthdays experience in a post-show workshop. Incorporating themes from the show and working with trained educators and children’s theatre makers, participants will have fun learning some drama skills and trying out “real-life” drama games. Show and workshop are recommended for children aged 3 – 10 + Adult

Especially on Birthdays: Shiny Heart & Flight Path Post-Show Workshop
Your child is invited to step into the world of Especially on Birthdays — an award-winning children’s theatre show about twins, birthdays, and the courage to grow.

In this fun, creative drama workshop, children use movement, voice, and play to explore big feelings like excitement, nervousness, and bravery — and discover that being different from someone doesn’t mean you can’t be friends.

Led by a Shiny Heart teaching artist, the workshop builds confidence, creativity, and connection through drama skills including vocal expression, movement, and collaborative play. No drama experience is needed — just curiosity and a willingness to try. Recommended for children aged 3 – 10 and families. Children under 6 must be accompanied by an adult.

Theatre access

The Tuggeranong Arts Centre Theatre is raked steeply. People with mobility issues are advised that the top two (F & G) and bottom two (A & B) rows are the most easily accessible. Row G is accessed via a single level. Access to seating is available via a central aisle.
The main entrance to the theatre is on the first floor. The lift to the first floor is located just inside the main entrance, on the lefthand side and opposite the stairs.
Easier access to rows A & B is via the downstairs entrance which can be arranged by contacting the centre prior to the event. 
Please advise us if you need support to get to your seats.

Wheelchair seating

Seats G1 and G2 have removeable seats to allow for a wheelchair. Please indicate in your checkout questions if you will be using a wheelchair to sit in. If the wheelchair seats have sold out, please contact us for options.

Hearing loops

There is a hearing loop and infrared hearing augmentation system installed in the Theatre for patrons.

Entry instructions

There is a ramp from the front carpark to the main entrance. The lift to the first floor, is located just inside the main entrance, on the lefthand side and opposite the stairs. The lift dimensions are: 2100mm (h) x 1450mm (d). The door is 880mm (w). The theatre is accessed from the first floor.

Toilets

TAC has left-hand transfer accessible unisex toilets located upstairs and downstairs. Gender-specific bathrooms are also available on both floors.

Accessible parking

There is one accessible parking space in the front carpark. If you require accessible parking, please feel free to use this space. If you or someone in your party has mobility issues where access to the TAC carpark is essential, please contact the Centre on 6293 1443 and we will reserve a space for you.
