Transparency, risk mitigation and bluewashing: Elevating ethical business practices – Lessons from the textile, clothing and footwear industry.

As part of Ethical Clothing Australia Week 2024, Ethical Clothing Australia is proud to partner with the University of Sydney’s Modern Slavery Unit and the Business School’s MBA Dimensions Program to present this compelling and timely panel discussion.

In a changing global landscape, NSW is at the forefront in implementing frameworks, policies and new laws to compel business and organisations to combat modern slavery and end exploitative labour conditions of workers.

This informative panel discussion will delve into the role of human rights due diligence and multi-stakeholder initiatives in fostering ethical business and supply chains. Drawing on lessons from the textile, clothing and footwear industry, the event will highlight best practices to protect workers and develop collaborative approaches.

 Themes to be explored will include:

  • The evolving legislative landscape to enhance protections for vulnerable workers;
  • The power and role of multi-stakeholder initiatives in delivering in-person, third party audits to centre and elevate worker voices;
  • The role of human rights due diligence in the management of transparent and ethical supply chains;
  • The rising tide of consumer sentiment demanding business and governments do better;
  • The practical application of embedding ethical and transparent supply chain management practices into operations; and,
  • The power of local and ethical procurement to increase transparency within the local industry.

Please join us to hear from this formidable panel of experts, who will share their extensive subject matter expertise on the above topics.

  • The Hon. Dr Sarah Kaine MLC
  • Jenny Kruschel | TCF National Secretary | CFMEU, Manufacturing Division
  • Associate Professor Martijn Boersma | The University of Sydney
  • Carolyn Kitto OAM | Co-Director | Be Slavery free
  • Andrew Quinn | Director | ABMT Apparel

The panel will be moderated by Heather Chai | Director Modern Slavery Unit | The University of Sydney
