Ethical Collecting - time to reframe "Leave no Trace ?"

Have you ever popped a pebble into your pocket at a beach ? 

Are your kids often picking posies of flowers from street verges for you ?          

Is it even possible to only "leave only footprints" ?

The "Leave no Trace" movement defines 7 principles for low impact interactions in natural ecosystems. They are crucial to make sure visitors,  campers, etc, don't destroy park grounds, leave waste, start bushfires, etc. 

But - is there another way to look at this ?

Since forever humans have dug for clay, chipped flint, traded stone and gathered reeds to make mats and baskets. How might we tread the fine line between mass exploitation - and the kind of exquisite reverence and reciprocity seen in indigenous harvest and ceremony?
