Glass Room
The Building Centre, London

The RIBA London Ethical Practice Special Interest Group welcomes you to participate in its third event to discuss the question “How Should We Innovate?”. We will explore current approaches and new ideas for an ethical built environment for those that work in the sector and importantly for the communities it serves. The discussion will bring together different perspectives, identify areas of common ground and disagreement, and surface practical insight that may help inform future conversations across RIBA and the wider profession in relation to the topic of ethical practice.

This forum is being held at The Building Centre on 7th October to coincide with Regenerative Design Month, organised by Architecture Today in collaboration with UK Architects Declare.

The afternoon session will have specialists in their fields providing insights into ethical practice on a range of issues and also share outputs from the first two Ethical Practice Special Interest Group sessions, held earlier this year in April and July, which asked the questions, “How Should We Work?” and “How Should We Collaborate?”.

The RIBA London Ethical Practice Special Interest Group brings RIBA members into a collaborative space to tackle complex moral, environmental, and structural challenges facing the built environment. It is a RIBA London Local Initiative Fund programme, chaired by New-works co-founder and RIBA London Chair Doug Hodgson as part of RIBA London’s insights gathering function. They create open, exploratory discussion, bringing together different perspectives and professional experiences. Recommendations arising from discussions will be considered through the appropriate RIBA channels and should not be understood as a formal RIBA policy position or direction.

The Group explores topics including: climate & biodiversity emergency, sustainable & regenerative design methodologies, the circular economy, rethinking resource management and material sourcing, clients ethical duties, procurement of services & materials, workplace culture & EDI, community impact, ethical project selection, continuation & innovation, specialism & collaboration, wellbeing & mental health, technology & AI revolution.
