Ethics for Dissertations and Theses - Why and How
Event description
Sheffield Hallam students will need to receive ethical approval prior to collecting data, as part of the research component (dissertation or thesis) of an undergraduate, masters or doctoral degree. The purpose of this is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of any participants and the researcher. It is to make sure that the principle of informed consent is applied. And it is to see that matters of anonymity, confidentiality and data protection are appropriately managed.
This session will look at:
- What is research ethics and why do we do it
- What are the core principles of ethics reviews
- What are the roles and responsibilities
- How to apply for research ethics and the approval process
This session would be of most interest to students who are anticipating completing an ethics application for a dissertation or theses within the next 6 months. Ethics is common across all disciplinary areas, so the session should be of use to those from all academic subjects.
