Ethos Researcher Forum – The iPhone
Ethos Community of Practice
Researcher Forum #1 – The iPhone
Are you a researcher, industry partner or community participant in research at UniSA? Join us for the first Ethos Community of Practice Researcher Forum.
The Ethos Community of Practice is a place for conversations about future-focused ethical issues relating to research, technological development and the broader social context. Each forum focuses on an object as the starting point.
The object for Researcher Forum #1 is the iPhone. In 2020, as part of the online LIFE INTERRUPTED exhibition at MOD. artist-in-residence Ana Tiquia explored the material histories of essential and precious items as a way of engaging audiences in thinking about object histories and futures. One of the items she explored with researchers and the public was the iPhone.
This forum will start with a video of Ana Tiquia summarising some of the ideas of her residency, followed by a panel discussion with Assoc Prof Tom Raimondo from UniSA STEM and Dr Katherine Christ from UniSA Business, facilitated by Director of MOD. Dr Kristin Alford.
Participants will then have a chance to explore ethical questions with others including:
- WHAT are the stories of this object?
- WHO am I in relation to this object?
- WHY is it relevant to me and how might I use it?
- HOW do I share its use with others?
- WHEN and WHERE might this object be more critical?
As a pilot program, participants will be able to provide feedback on the session and nominate objects for future forums.
Want more? Join a moderator-led tour of the current exhibition at MOD. called IT’S COMPLICATED to think about a broader range of ethical issues relating to complex systems.
If you are a member of the public not involved in research, but interested in this conversation, an ETHOS Community of Practice Public Forum will be held on Thursday 27 May. Click here for more information.
The Researcher Forum is free, but registrations are requested to allow us to manage a COVID-Safe event.
Food Lore Café will be open for coffee and snacks before and after the event.
