Eurardy Reserve (WA) Guided Trip, Sat 29 August 2026

Eurardy Reserve, Nanda Country
Add to calendar

Description

Join us this August for a special guided visit to Eurardy Reserve, one of our most ecologically significant reserves in Western Australia.

Located just north of the Wheatbelt and bordering Kalbarri National Park, Eurardy is a remarkable landscape undergoing a large-scale ecological transformation. Once cleared for farming, it is now home to one of Australia's most ambitious restoration projects, aiming to bring back diverse native vegetation and support a rich array of wildlife.

Meet Bush Heritage staff on site in the morning for a hot cuppa, introductions and an overview of Eurardy Reserve. After that grab your gear (including your picnic lunch and water bottles) and jump into our Bush Heritage four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicles as we head out to explore the reserve for the day.

We’ll explore the incredibly diverse native flora across this significant landscape and stop to visit some of the project sites where you can see recovery in action.  As part of the globally recognised Southwest Australia Biodiversity Hotspot, Eurardy is home to many iconic species, including the Western Grey Kangaroo, Mallee fowl, and an incredible diversity of native birds and raptors. As we enter the wildflower season, we hope Eurardy will put on a spectacular display. Every season is different, so keep your eyes peeled!

We'll break for a scenic picnic lunch somewhere, before heading back towards the homestead, passing through creekline and sandplain habitats.

The visit concludes at your vehicles by 3:30 pm for a timely departure. If you’re self‑sufficient and travelling with your own camping setup, you’re welcome to stay overnight on site (details below) and depart by 10:00 am the following morning.

This is a unique opportunity to see conservation in action, connect with country that is being lovingly restored to health and spend time with our incredible community of supporters.

If you want to learn more about Eurardy Reserve, you’ll find a full explainer on our website here

Date
Saturday 29 August 2026

Time
10.00 am (for a 10.30 am start) to 3.30 pm

Location
Eurardy Reserve is approximately 145 km (about 1 hr 45 min drive) North of Geraldton. Further details on how to get there will be provided to participants prior to the trip.

Transport
Participants need to arrange their own transport to and from the reserve. Two-wheel-drive (2WD) vehicles are suitable for reaching the homestead.

Fitness / Access
You will need to be in good health and have reasonable mobility for climbing in and out of vehicles and undertaking some short, gentle walks, usually off track. We suggest byo picnic chair if you prefer to sit off the ground at lunchtime.

Food and drink
You need to bring your own lunch, snacks and water for the day (we recommend 1.5 L minimum per person). A light morning tea, including hot drinks, will be provided on arrival at the homestead.

Facilities
Toilets are available at the meeting point at the beginning and end of the day. Once we leave here, there are no facilities on the reserve. Any toilet breaks will need to be taken in nature.

Mobile phone reception is unreliable outside of townships, and different phone providers may have additional restrictions. There is no reception on the property.

Accommodation
We recommend staying somewhere locally for easy access to the reserve and to avoid travelling between dawn and dusk to avoid collisions with animals. The closest towns with accommodation are Kalbarri (1.5 hrs drive) and Geraldton (2 hrs drive).

Camping option

While this is a day trip, we welcome self-sufficient campers to stay at Eurardy on Saturday night following your guided visit. There will be a designated unpowered camping area, near our workers' facilities, where you will have access to a toilet, shower and gas BBQ. You will need to be self-catered, but we hope to share your company under the stars as we unwind from the day. There will be an informal walk offered to those interested the next morning, with the aim of everyone departing the reserve by 10 am.

On booking, you will be asked to indicate if you would like to camp Saturday night.

Pets
Please leave your pets at home.

Staying healthy
For the well-being of all participants, we ask for your assistance by not attending if you are feeling unwell. Participants are welcome to wear a face mask if they choose.
