Eva & Sam’s Perma-Blitz
Event description
Freo permies is excited to hold the first blitz event of the year - and we would love you to join us!
What is a perma-blitz? A Perma-blitz is a great way to connect with your local permie community. A day packed full of activities the group comes together to work on some projects in a member’s yard. In these events many hands make light work, and we can get a lot done around the yard, but they also help share skills, build connection, and are a great way to have fun!
Eva & Sam have been involved in the local community and followed the Freo permies a while. Some of you may have met them at a blitz many moons ago or through the Coolby Swap and Share. We are excited to host a blitz to transform their barren corner verge into a Permaculture Community Patch.
Jobs for the day are focused on 3 projects:
- 1) Create and plant a Myawaki-inspired native pocket forest to attract local wildlife, increase biodiversity, and mitigate urban heat.
- 2) Set up a mixed fruit and nut orchard incorporating a designated caravan spot for future helpx-ers
- 3) Building a raised limestone herb spiral which will become home to medicinal and culinary herbs
- 4) General landscaping, defining pathways and mulching!
As we work, you’ll be guided by our ‘project leads' who will help to not only teach you the task, but help you understand the permaculture principles, theory, and interconnectedness behind the activities.
There is lots to do and we aim to ensure a range of activities for different abilities, ages, and interests. If you've accessibility needs, please let us know.
General Day run down: Arrive at 8.30am to sign in and have a cuppa, a walkaround and chat before we kick off events at 8.45am. We will stop for a yummy morning tea around 10.30am, and break for lunch at around 1pm. This will allow enough time for a good feed, some chats, and some cool drinks before we tidy up and finish up by around 2pm.
Food: We provide all the yummy morning tea and lunch, and there will be vegan with/and gluten free options. Please let us know if you've other dietary requirements.
What to bring: We will be working outside so please remember
- wear appropriate sun-smart clothing
- a hat and sunglasses
- sun-cream
- closed shoes
- a water bottle
- gloves are essential
- Garden tools like shovels, forks or wheelbarrows are also handy!
Kids: Freo Permies activities and events aim to be family friendly - so we welcome children, but please recognise you always remain responsible for them.
Important insurance note: Freo Permies is a sub-group of permaculture west. Permaculture West is the state support group for Western Australia local Permie groups. To help support us we encourage you to join and ask you select Freo Permies as your local group.
