Evangeline’s Life and Mission with the Friends Rescue Home
Event description
Join the Columbus Historical Society and speaker Jan Schiffer for a talk about the extraordinary life of Evangeline Reams and her impact on the many unprotected women and girls she reached during her years of ministry in Columbus. Her role in the life of the Friends Rescue Home, and the homes evolution over the years. As her obituary states, “to review the life of Evangeline Reams is practically to tell the story of the Friends Rescue Home of Columbus, Ohio.” Their stories must be told in unison. Over 4,000 babies were born here during the 50 years the FRH occupied this residence.
Jan is the author of her recently released memoir, Finding the Rest of Me, a detailed account of her adoption journey that led her to the Friends Rescue Home, where she was born.
From a young age Jan Schiffer has enjoyed journaling the details of her life. She majored in Social Work at the University of Kentucky and The Ohio State University. She was a paraprofessional in an elementary classroom for children with emotional and behavioral disorders and led an Alternative School Short Term classroom for at risk high school students in Lima Ohio. After retiring, she worked at and volunteered at the Equestrian Therapy Program, in Cridersville. Jan currently resides in the country with her husband, dog and cat, on a cliff high above the Kentucky River, in Frankfort, Kentucky.
Parking is available on the property.
