Event description
Evening "For the Ancestors"
On this week of honoring ancestors across cultures, this is an evening of song, ritual, and witness for community to engage with the practice of re-villaging together.
We will honor the energy of life and death cycles, make offerings of beautiful communal song, reflective journaling, and sharing and witnessing with reverent prompts.
This is a ceremonial space to spend time alongside our Ancestors of Belonging, our Ancestors of Wholeness, and our Ancestors of Great Repair.
Led by Laurence Cole, a renowned elder within the Grief and Song communities, and Alyx Somas, a Native American Culture Tender and Collective Liberationist.
An encouraging and gentle space. Bring a journal. All are welcomed and wanted.
Offerings to be placed upon the Ancestor Altar are welcomed and will return home with you at completion.
Located 20 minutes south of Port Townsend, address emailed with registration
*Offered at a sliding scale for financial accessibility, of $30 - $90
If this scale is inaccessible for you and you would like to participate, please reach out to alyxsomas@gmail.com
The Collectivity Project is also planning “For The Ancestors: A Truthsgiving Cultural Healing Retreat" at the same location on the weekend of "Thanksgiving," from 11/28 - 11/30 -- a deep-dive ceremonial space for all people to honor, strengthen, and heal our ancestral relationships.
During times that are calling for collective healing, this retreat is a place
to remember the indigenous lineage ways of embodied communal prayer that are our birthrites as humans
to reckon with the grief of the legacy of colonialism as it has impacted all of our lineages, and to heal some of patterns we have inherited here
to connect, as village, with the deep reverence for life that all of our pre-colonial ancestors held, with powerful decolonial practices for daily life
This retreat is a response to the rise of Empire, ecocide, and genocide – meeting mass devastation with the kind and fierce labor of restoring relationship — with land, with village, and with the Spirit of Life.
Come and re-member what it means to be “a people” together, supported by our most courageous and altruistic ancestors.
