Join us for a deeply moving and insightful presentation by Rod Beattie, widely regarded as the foremost authority on the Thailand–Burma Railway — known to many as the Death Railway.

Rod’s dedication to preserving this vital chapter of history began in 1994 when he helped clear the original pathway into Hellfire Pass ahead of a visit by Prime Minister Paul Keating. His decades of research led to the creation of the Thailand–Burma Railway Centre, a world-class museum and research facility in Kanchanaburi, Thailand. The Centre honours the tens of thousands who suffered or died building the railway during World War II and keeps their stories alive for future generations.

Rod now maintains a detailed archive of over 22,500 records of Australian prisoners of war (PoWs).

This event is a rare chance to hear firsthand from someone whose life’s work has ensured that the courage, suffering, and sacrifice of those involved in the Death Railway are never forgotten.
