The Tulous of Fujian and other Chinese Earth Buildings with Rowland Keable
Description
If you're interested in Earth Building or Chinese Architecture then this is for you!
China has a rich heritage of earth building with Tulous forming a small part of it. There are estimated to be 3,500 of these structures remaining, made from a mix of rammed earth, moulded earth and timber.
陈立超 Professor Chen Lichao will be introducing earth building, design, and education in China. Rowland will be sharing his perspective on these spectacular buildings as an international earth designer, builder and researcher.
陈立超 Professor Chen Lichao is Associate Dean and Professor at the School of Architecture and Art at the China Academy of Art. His research focuses on construction systems using traditional sustainable materials, and has over 15 years of professional experience. His particular passion is “searching for soil” and “studying soil,” so whenever he's on a business trip or traveling, he always keeps a small shovel and some sealable bags in his bag so he can collect different types of soil at any time.
Rowland Keable is a founding member of EBUKI and is CEO, he runs his own company Rammed Earth Consulting and is a UNESCO Professor and Chair on Earthen Architecture. He is co-author of Rammed Earth Structures A Code of Practice and has helped develop international building standards on earth construction. Rowland works internationally on training, designing, building and research. His recent research has been exploring extruded earth construction and using earth building in large construction projects.
