Every Bite Food Waste Prevention Programme - Hāwea
Event description
Kia ora and welcome to Every Bite - Hāwea edition!
Wanaka Wastebusters is incredibly excited to bring Every Bite to Hāwea, a food waste prevention programme designed to help households cut back on their food waste, become more food resourceful, and save money in the process
- “We've made sustainable change and are set up to continue.” Rebecca Kirby-Crowe, Every Bite participant.
This four-week programme provides you with the tools, support and, most importantly, the motivation to monitor your food waste, as well as loads of tips, tricks, and tasty recipes for keeping your kai in date and on your plates. It’s super easy and with the average household throwing away more than $1500 worth of food a year, a few small tweaks to your daily habits can make a big difference to your household food waste and your grocery bill.
What to expect:
- The 4 week programme consists of two in-person sessions (one at the start and one at the end), with some simple strategies for you to try at home to help you reduce your food waste.
- At the first in-person session on 14th August (from 6.00pm - 8.00pm) at the Hāwea Community Hall, you'll be treated to some delicious kai prepared by professional chef and zero waste champion Evelyn Vallillee (Dripping Bowl), as she shares her industry tips for reducing spoilage, ideas for recipe substitutes, and loads more.
- You’ll receive newsletters during the programme with updates, recipes and ideas to keep you on track and you’ll have access to a Facebook group where you can share your progress and ideas with other participants, ask questions, discuss challenges and celebrate your wins.
- We’ll come back together on 11th September (from 6.00pm - 7.30pm), at the Lake Wānaka Centre to have a kōrero about your journey.
- Everyone who completes the 4 week programme will go in the draw to win a $100 New World Voucher.
The four week Every Bite programme costs just $10, with all proceeds going to local food recovery charity, Kiwi Harvest, an organisation that is doing amazing mahi in diverting fit-for-use food from landfill and providing food security to those who need it.
We look forward to you joining us on this fun and rewarding food waste prevention programme.
