Event description

Every Bite is a fun, hands-on four-week programme designed to help you reduce food waste in simple, practical ways. Through easy actions, helpful tips, and community connection, you’ll discover how small changes can make a big impact—saving food, money, and the planet. Plus, you'll take home a copy of the popular Kete Kai cookbook (valued at $20) and some extra goodies! Join us and let’s make the most of every bite.

Food waste is a growing issue in Aotearoa, but Every Bite, delivered by the Zero Waste Network and local waste minimisation group Wāhi Tukurua, is helping Mercury Bay residents make meaningful, lasting changes. Following a successful pilot in February, Wāhi Tukurua (Mercury Bay Resource Recovery Centre Trust) is bringing Every Bite back this May—giving even more people the opportunity to take part in this fun and practical food-saving initiative.

What to Expect

This four-week programme provides you with the tools, support, and motivation to monitor your food waste, plus plenty of tips, tricks, and tasty recipes to help keep your kai fresh and on your plate. It’s easy to follow, and with the average household throwing away more than $1,300 worth of food each year, a few small tweaks to your daily habits can make a big difference—to both your household waste and your grocery bill!

The programme consists of two in-person sessions (one at the start and one at the end), with simple strategies for you to try at home to help reduce your food waste.

🔹 Kick-off Session: Join us on April 27th at Mercury Twin Cinemas for a fun and interactive event.

🔹 Throughout the Programme: You'll receive weekly newsletters filled with updates, recipes, and ideas to keep you on track. You’ll also have access to our private Facebook group where you can share your progress, ask questions, discuss challenges, and celebrate your wins.

🔹 Final Wrap-up Session: We’ll come back together at the end of May to reflect on your journey, share insights, and celebrate your successes.

The four-week Every Bite programme costs $10, which helps cover some administration costs.

We look forward to you joining us for this fun and rewarding food waste prevention journey!
