What folks are saying

"Ladin's voice is a revelation. Clear, strong, delicate and emotive all at the same time, her exemplary examples of adult love songs deal with complicated subject matter, yet never lose their swing or get bogged down by maudlin sentimentality. In fact, the music is gorgeous."

NO DEPRESSION

"Evie Ladin is a natural entertainer with a gift for infusing folk practices with contemporary verve."

More about Evie

Banjo player, singer, songwriter, percussive-dancer, choreographer and square-dance caller, Evie grew up steeped in traditional folk music/dance, and brings a contemporary vision to her compositions and choreography. Evie's performances, recordings and teaching reconnect Appalachian music/dance with other African-Diaspora traditions, and have been heard from A Prairie Home Companion to Lincoln Center, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass to Celtic Connections, Brazil to Bali.

She has taken home ribbons in folk song and banjo from Mt Airy, NC Fiddlers Convention, and Neo-Trad Band from the Appalachian Stringband Festival, Clifftop, WV.

Raised on the East Coast, based in Oakland, CA, Evie tours with Keith Terry and the Evie Ladin Band; and has produced 8 CDs of original and traditional music, and two clogging instructional DVDs. In the percussive dance world, she directs the moving choir MoToR/dance, is co-founder of the International Body Music Festival, and is an ace freestyle flatfooter. In the trad world, Evie teaches banjo and harmony singing at the infamous Freight & Salvage, online at Peghead Nation and numerous camps. In the songwriter world, she just writes great songs.

A truly entertaining performer, Evie enjoys facilitating arts learning in diverse communities.

Sing, Clap, Move: The Whole Body Music Workshop 4:30-6 pm

Beyond percussion, we use the term Body Music to include all the sounds made by your human instrument. Traditional styles of Body Music exist all over the world. Clap, step and sing, to literally incorporate the music into more than just your voice. Hold patterns that underlie your vocal improvisations, and learn to include and blend clapping and stepping with the sound of your singing for a total body and mind experience.

All you need are comfortable clothes and curiosity. No experience needed!
