Evisceration & Emancipation

Event description

In the coveted words of Jordan Terrell Carter, "When the sun goes down, yeah, it's time to creep". And as the sun falls on the eve of September 4th, and darkness stretches through Brisbane's inner city CBD, myself and fellow quintet members will be creeping into 540 Queen St to make our one and only performance at the FourthWall Arts stage.

In what has been described as an "anthropophagite's guide to arranging" Daniel Shearer has eviscerated and decimated perfectly fine pieces from the cello repertoire, re-arranging them into a cello smash hit parade from the 1840s, 50s, and 80s. This features a collection of tracks from the Three German Amigos: Mendelssohn, Schumann and Brahms, for a party on stage to rival the likes of Schoolies and Nana Judy's 90th. And for the broken hearted people out there, fear not, we will turn that frown upside down with a performance of the Adagio from Bruckner's String Quintet celebrating his 200th birthday. For those fiending for something fresh, we've got you, a brand spanking new string quintet is being composed as you read! By local legend Bobby Huen. To start the concert there will be a performance of none other than Lisa Cheney's award winning 'When We Speak', a piece to fend off the bad vibes and get your palettes ready to chow down on an evening of delicious musical meat.

DO NOT MISS an evening of cultural cannibalism, where the audience and musicians will NEITHER adopt or reject European culture, but devour it! Adapting its strengths and incorporating them into the native-self. Against musical scleroses. Against the Conservatories and speculative tedium. Evisceration and emancipation.

Complimentary wine and snacks will be at the door :):)
