Sat, 19 Jul, 10am - 2pm NZST

Event description

This workshop is for EVolocity students or those interested in our program for Years 7 - 13.

Explore electronics & programming and learn how to build a dashboard for your EV.

Our Arduino programming experts will take you through a step-by-step tutorial on building and programming your Arduino-based system monitor for your own electric vehicle. Everyone will leave the workshop with a working temperature monitoring system.

For Open Class teams, you must monitor the temperature of lithium batteries as per the rules. This workshop is essential for those using lithium batteries.

WHAT WE WILL COVER

Understand what an Arduino is and how it works

• Learn how to use an Arduino safely, and how to program your Arduino using code you've written

• Begin making a dashboard for your electric vehicle to provide performance data

• Along the way, you will learn valuable programming constructs such as variables, conditionals, loops etc

If this is new to you, you won't be alone! No experience is necessary.

ARDUINO KITS

If you are attending the workshop, you will need to purchase a kit. The kits will be provided at the workshop and you'll be sent an invoice following the event. The kits cost $45 + GST. If you aren’t intending on coming along to the workshop but would like to purchase a kit, please let me know.

WHAT TO BRING

Students are to bring their own computers. The programming software is free, and please ensure this is installed and tested in advance. THE REQUIRED SOFTWARE DOES NOT RUN ON CHROMEBOOKS. Please download Arduino IDE 2 (the one at the top of the page), and ensure you are using a Windows, Mac, or Linux computer. There may be some devices available on the day for those who do not have a device. You can download the Arduino Guidebook and Example Sketches here. The booklet steps you through the connections and programming, and the example sketches are what you will work from during the workshop.
