THE CHOICE: We don't always choose what happens. We choose what happens next.

If you've ever felt like the world is becoming noisier while people are becoming lonelier, you're one of us. We're the people who choose people.

On this night, six people will share their true stories to you.The finale will feature a story from ERIC EM, a man who arrived in Australia as a boat refugee.

In the 1980s, his family fled political oppression in Vietnam. Their journey by boat included starvation and pirate attacks. They eventually made it to Melbourne with little more than the clothes they were wearing. His parents couldn't speak English. They took manual labour jobs and rebuilt from zero.

Eric worked extremely hard, graduated from RMIT with honours in engineering, worked internationally with Mercedes-Benz and went on to build a career in Australia's energy sector.

This is what the Australian dream can look like for families like his; Not something handed to you, but something built across a generation.

A family arrives with almost nothing but the chance to begin again. Their son grows up with opportunities his parents crossed an ocean to give him, and makes the most of them.But this isn't a success story.

It's about what happens when one generation travels an unimaginable distance so the next doesn't have to.

Eric is only one of SIX.

Joining him is DR DINESH PALIPANA OAM.

Dinesh was halfway through medical school when a car accident left him quadriplegic at 25. He returned to medicine. He became Queensland's first quadriplegic medical intern and went on to become a doctor, lawyer, spinal cord injury researcher, university academic, author and disability advocate. He completed an Advanced Clerkship in Radiology at Harvard University, was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia and, in 2021, was named Queensland Australian of the Year.

But behind that list of achievements is a human story; A life that changed in seconds, and everything that came after.

Then there's ANDREA GULLICK.

Andrea's first-born baby was diagnosed with cancer at just two days old. Three years later, another devastating event changed the course of her life all over again.Andrea describes these experiences as simultaneously among the 'worst and best things that ever happened to her.'

On November 6, she'll tell us why.

And then there's JOSH 'KYOTE' TAYLOR.

Josh was a professional wrestler when an injury began a chain of events that ultimately resulted in the amputation of his leg. You might expect that experience to define the person you meet today. But you obviously haven't met Josh. His outlook on life is absolutely incredible.
