Description

FREE Ramsar Week 2026 event

Water for the environment - also known as e-Water - is water released into rivers and wetlands to support plants and animals at critical stages of their lifecycle.

Corangamite CMA’s environmental water team manages the wetting and drying regime for the lower Barwon wetlands to maintain the ecological character of the treasured Port Phillip Bay (Western shoreline) and Bellarine Peninsula Ramsar site.

Led by Corangamite CMA’s very own Jake van Dam, join us for an informing walk-through Reedy Lake where we will discuss the complexities of e-Water management.

This is also a great opportunity for the twitchers out there, as Reedy Lake is a known hotspot for a high diversity of birdlife – including the endangered Australasian Bittern. Make sure to pack your binoculars.

Note:

Please be aware that this activity will be physical and will require walking on uneven and slippery ground. We recommend you wear gaters or gumboots. Long sleeved shirts and full-length pants are also recommended.

If the weather becomes unfavourable or if Extreme or Catastrophic Fire Danger Ratings are declared, the event will be cancelled and participants will be notified as soon as possible.

What to bring:

Gumboots, binoculars, hat, drinking water, sunscreen, long pants, long sleeved top, closed toe shoes (gumboots recommended).

Catering:

Complimentary afternoon tea with vegan and gluten friendly options will be provided. For any specific dietaries or allergies please contact hannah.wiggs@ccma.vic.gov.au

This event is part of Ramsar Week 2026 - a week of FREE activities from 2 to 6 February celebrating the internationally recognised Ramsar wetlands in the Corangamite CMA region. Learn more at www.ccma.vic.gov.au/ramsar-week
