Event description
Dear dancers,
You are invited to participate in Excursion – a one-day trip into Rosalind Crisp’s extensive dancing practice.
Excursion hovers between performance, workshop and forum to give an intimate, experiential insight into Ros’s performing dancing, now.
Ros will offer a warm-up for everyone, then get dancing. Her dances will be interspersed with reflections, danced interventions and discussions.
The day will be co-hosted by Olivia Millard, with interventions from Olivia, Phoebe Robinson, Siobhan McKenna, and you, the ‘audience’, if you wish.

ARTIST BIOS
Rosalind Crisp is one of Australia’s senior, contemporary, dance artists and a Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. She established Omeo Dance studio in 1996 which became the home of experimental dance in Sydney. Invited to Paris in 2002, she was Associate Artist of Atelier de Paris for ten years. Her unique body of work situates the dancer as art maker, critically questioning dance through a rigorous practice of live composition. Long term studio exchange is fundamental to her practice. Since 2015, her works implicate her dancing body in the environmental descent of Australia.
Olivia Millard is a Senior Lecturer in Dance at Deakin University who completed her PhD in 2013. Olivia’s current research encompasses collaborative projects centred around improvisation in dance performance including the AllPlay Dance project which explores the benefits of inclusion in dance activities for children with disability.
Phoebe Robinson has an established practice of over 20 years, as a dancer, teacher, choreographer and more recently as a research assistant, independent scholar and filmmaker. As a dancer Phoebe has performed in works by Sandra Parker, Rosalind Crisp, Lucy Guerin, Judith Walton, Joanna Pollitt, Frances D’Ath, Neil Adams and Kota Yamazaki. She completed a PhD in 2023 at the Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne.
Siobhan McKenna is a Melbourne/Naarm based dance artist. She grew up in the Bega Valley in NSW, on Yuin Country before moving to the city where she had the privilege of studying a BFA in dance at VCA, graduating in 2016. The journey she has undertaken as an artist over the last 8 years includes experience performing in other’s work, creating her own work, teaching, and participating in various workshops and residency programs. Recently, Siobhan travelled to Vienna to undertake the Atlas scholarship program as part of ImplusTanz festival and also premiered her work ‘Say it again’ with Sydney Dance Company as part of their 2024 New Breed Program.
