Event description

Legendary Naarm band EXEK make their way to the capital for the first time. Kicking off the long weekend with a night for the ages. A rare opportunity to catch one of the best and most interesting Australian bands of the last decade. Support from local post-punks Soft Toy.

EXEK play post-punk from Melbourne/Naarm. Formed in 2014, the group is led by Albert Wolski, who writes, records and produces. Casting a wide net of influences that range from dub, kraut, ambient, hip-hop and the avant-garde, the group's output differs from song to song, and also from gig to gig. Whether its punk EXEK supporting a hardcore band from Texas, or art EXEK playing in a gallery space, they have the ability to chameleon between different milieus.

EXEK have toured several continents, developing a strong cult following, and have recently released their fifth album “Advertise Here”.

"This band exceeds in all my trials. Esoteric nature, but oddly poppy and ready to prick up any ears out there. Deconstructed, but full of hooks." - John Dwyer (Oh Sees)

Soft Toy is the new project from local soft boys Anja Loughead and Jordan Roger of past sadsack punk bands Wives, Primary Colours, and Sex Noises.

This event is taking place on stolen land. We acknowledge the Ngunnawal, Ngunawal, and Ngambri peoples as custodians and that their sovereignty was never ceded. Always was, always will be.
