Exercise Volare webinar: strengthening Australia’s preparedness for high pathogenic avian influenza
Event description
Australia is the only continent free from H5 high pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) (clade 2.3.4.4b). The virus has spread rapidly between continents associated with the movement of wild birds and is causing global concern.
In August and September 2024, Exercise Volare, a simulation exercise, explored Australia’s response to a potential fictious incursion of H5 HPAI in wildlife. The exercise involved Australian, state and territory governments, industry and non-government groups.
You’re invited to our webinar where we will share information on the global HPAI situation and learnings from Exercise Volare.
Presenter bios are available on the Exercise Volare webpage.

Exercise Volare was delivered by the Australian Government’s HPAI Preparedness Taskforce, led by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Department of Health and Aged Care, Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water and the National Emergency Management Agency. The taskforce coordinates joint national activities to enhance Australia’s preparedness and response capability for a potential incursion of H5 HPAI.
