Exhibition - Growth: Texture in Sculptural Felt by Ellen Looij-Machiela
Description
Honing her felting skills over the last 25 years, Ellen Looij-Machiela is especially inspired by forming wool into 3-dimensional shapes, experimenting with many different techniques.
Making wool felt is an ancient method of turning fluffy unspun wool into a sturdy strong fabric, dating back 8500 years. By fusing and shrinking the wool fibres, using today’s finer wool breeds and incorporating other fibres such as silk and cotton, modern felting is still developing in different directions.
While she plays with colours, water and soap, Ellen loves exploring new textures and structures in the Magic of Felt.
Opening Night: Friday 30th October 2026 – 5-7pm
