Designer Tom Fereday and glassmaker Katie-Ann Houghton present two solo shows exploring thoughtful design.

Sydney-based Tom Fereday has developed glass products using his vast knowledge of manufacturing processes. The industrial nature of his designs has led to their production offshore, in environments where large-scale manufacturing supports precision, efficiency and exciting methods that aren’t available in Australia. In contrast, Katie-Ann Houghton has honed her practice over 20 years of hands-on learning. This approach follows the apprenticeship model, where skill is acquired through sustained practice, observation, and repetition. Houghton works between her production practice.

Shown side-by-side, these exhibitions highlight the significance of both small-scale industrial processes and handmade glass, showcasing the unique strengths and challenges of each.
