Exhibition Opening | Feathered: Birds in Myth and Memory
Event description
The Friends and the Manning Regional Art Gallery are pleased to host our next exhibition opening. Join us in opening Feathered: birds in myth and memory.
feathered the exhibition, brings together leading Australian, regional, and First Nations artists to explore the deep connection between birds, memory and meaning. Birds have long featured in human stories as symbols of remembrance and transformation; their flight, song and migration echoing our own experiences of movement, connection and change.
Through painting, print, sculpture and installation, the artists in Feathered reveal how birds stir powerful memories of childhood, family and Country across all cultures.
Birds, with their graceful forms and enigmatic behaviours, have long been entwined with human myth and memory as symbols of remembrance and transformation. Their fleeting presence – the hush of wings, the echo of birdsong and the arc of migration – mirror the way memories drift between clarity and obscurity, shaping our sense of time loss and connection.
Works featured include del Kathryn Barton, Brett Whitely, Fiona Hall, Arthur Boyd, Iluwanti Ken and Jeffrey Smart.
