Event description

Cipta Theatre Company is excited to present our Semester One production for 2025: Exit the Boy by Blue Jordan!

ABOUT THE PLAY

This tale does not exist to lecture you, and neither does its villain.

A deeply visceral play that explores religion, fairytale, folklore, and the experience of terror, Exit the Boy follows two teenagers as they navigate an encounter with a demon during their stay at Father Kirk’s Bible camp. As the play progresses, the questions arise: what is the true nature of this demon? Is conquering the villain as simple as fairytales make it out to be? And can we ever really grow out of believing the stories we grew up on?

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY

At Cipta Theatre Company, we would like to acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woiwurrung people of the Kulin Nation who are the traditional custodians of this land. We are honoured to be able to perform and create on a land with such a rich history of art, storytelling and creation that has lasted for tens of thousands of years.

We would also like to acknowledge that this land has been, and continues to be, a site of incredible violence, that remains unpunished. At Cipta, we stand in solidarity with all marginalised and occupied peoples around the world, and call for accountability of continuing genocide and colonisation.

We pay our respect to elders, past and present. Sovereignty was never ceded. This always was and always will be.

And always remember, Free Palestine.
