Event description

In this hands-on workshop, you will get to explore CoCo, a new platform developed by a team of PhD researchers at MIT Media Lab’s Lifelong Kindergarten Group. It introduces a novel paradigm for digital creative collaboration, supporting

  • real-time co-creation with peers in various computational environments such as Scratch and p5.js, along with built-in live audio and video for both remote and in-person learning.
  • educators to start safe private communities for learners where only approved members can join and collaborate together.
  • an environment where students can program multiplayer games, collaborative stories, art, animations, and physical computing projects with peers using devices such as micro:bit, Makey Makey, and others.
About the workshop leaders
    • Shruti Dhariwal and Manuj Dhariwal are co-creators of CoCo and doctoral researchers at MIT Media Lab’s Lifelong Kindergarten Group. Their work and research has been featured in MIT News and EdSurge, with educators and parents from 85+ countries signing up to bring CoCo into their classrooms and communities. Their recent work on “Little Language Models,” an upcoming hands-on AI education microworld within CoCo, was featured by MIT Technology Review.

    • The duo have been working together as creative collaborators for over a decade, and have also been recipients of the LEGO Papert Fellowship for their work at the intersection of creativity, learning, play, and new technologies. Before MIT, Manuj and Shruti ran a game design company in India, creating playful educational board games and apps that reached over a million children.
