A morning of stories, cultural experiences and hands-on creativity for children and families.

Join us as we kick off Children’s Week 2026 with a celebration of culture, language, and belonging, inspired by Article 30 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. 

We'll begin the day with a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony led by the Bunurong Land Council. 

Following the ceremony, families are invited to move inside the Altona Civic Centre for a vibrant morning of stories, art and cultural experiences designed for children aged 0 -12 and their families.  

Explore a range of drop-in activities and experiences led by artists, storytellers and cultural practitioners. Children can get creative with hands on art activities, discover the art of origami, experience henna artistry and gather for an engaging storytime with storyteller and educator Rohini Vij. 

Come along for a morning of creativity, curiosity and connection as we celebrate every child’s right to use their own language, celebrate their culture and practice their religion. 

Suitable for children ages 0 – 12 and their families.
