Explore Mt Glenrowan via Chick Hill, Warby Ovens National Park - Grade 3 (Medium)
Event description
The Warby Range Bushwalkers invites you to join them to explore Morgans Lookout Mt Glenrowan via Chick Hill, in the Warby Ovens National Park. This walk is part of the Try Bushwalking Month, celebrating the 90th Anniversary of Bushwalking Victoria, the peak body representing 60+ bushwalking clubs across Victoria.
The walk takes us to Chick Hill for views towards the Alps and to Morgans Lookout at Mt Glenrowan for excellent views to the south and east.
DISTANCE: 11km return walk that will take 4-5hrs
WHO IS THIS WALK FOR? Suitable for most ages and fitness levels. A medium return walk, mostly along a gravel management vehicle track and bush tracks mostly with gentle ascending and descending. There is one steep section of sealed road leading to the communications towers near the start and end of the walk.
CHILDREN AND PETS: This walk is for adults 18 years and over, and due to the nature of the walk, we ask you to leave dogs and other pets at home. Please contact the club directly to inquire about service animals, and any family or pet friendly walks.
AWT GRADE: 3 (Medium) - Suitable for most ages and fitness levels. Tracks may have short steep sections, a rough surface and many steps. AWT Grade information.
PACE: The pace will be determined by the attendees, generally around 3 to 4kph. There are interest points along the route, a morning tea break at Chick Hill and lunch at Morgans Lookout, Mt Glenrowan.
TOTAL ASCENT: Starting the walk at an elevation of approx. 340m and reaching high points of approx. 410m at the communications towers, approx. 455m at Chick Hill and approx. 515m at Morgans Lookout, Mt Glenrowan before returning via mostly the same route back to approx. 340m elevation at the start of the walk. The track is mostly undulating with gentle hills and some short steep sections.
WALK DESCRIPTION:
A medium walk of approximately 11 kilometres mostly along a gravel management vehicle track and bush tracks within an open forest of Blakely’s Redgum, Red Stringybark, a range of Box species, the Austral Grass-tree and in Spring wildflowers. There is one steep section of sealed road leading to the communication towers near the start and end of the walk.

We will carpool the 17km from the meeting point to our walk start point at the top of Taminick Gap.
CARPOOLING: We will meet at Rotary Park in Wangaratta, and carpool from there. Carpool cost $3.50 per passenger, payable in cash to driver.
PHONE SIGNAL: Close to Glenrowan and freeway, phone signal available subject to your provider.
TOILETS: At Rotary Park,Wangaratta (meeting point). No toilet facilities during the walk. Plenty of bush for a bush pee.
