    Event description

The UTS Institute for Sustainable Futures (ISF) warmly invites you to hear visiting researchers from Technische Universität Berlin – one of our Key Technology Partners – present on their research in neurourbanism. They will discuss methodologies used to understand psychological and physiological responses to living in urban environments that can inform more sustainable urban design to promote mental health and wellbeing.

    About the presenters

Professor Klaus Gramann received his PhD in psychology from RWTH Aachen, Aachen, Germany. He was a postdoc with the LMU Munich, Germany, and the Swartz Center for Computational Neuroscience, University of California at San Diego. After working as a visiting professor at the National Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan he became the chair of Biopsychology and Neuroergonomics with the Technical University of Berlin, Germany in 2012. He has been a Professor with the UTS, Australia and is an International Scholar at the University of California San Diego. His research covers the neural foundations of cognitive processes with a focus on the brain dynamics of embodied cognitive processes. He directs the Berlin Mobile Brain/Body Imaging Labs (BeMoBIL) that focus on imaging human brain dynamics in actively behaving participants.

Dr Robin Mazumder is an environmental neuroscientist with a keen interest in understanding how living in cities impacts wellbeing; his research questions are informed in part by his clinical experience as a community-based mental health occupational therapist. His PhD research at the University of Waterloo, funded by the prestigious Vanier Scholarship, applied wearable technology in real and immersive virtual environments to examine psychological and physiological responses to the urban environment. Robin is currently diving deeper into the intersection of civic society and mental health as a Postdoctoral Fellow at TU Berlin working with Dr Klaus Gramann on the Research Platform Neurourbanism.

There will be two presentations with time for questions and discussion, followed by afternoon tea with light refreshments.

Please note - This is an in-person event only and will not be live-streamed or recorded.
