Event description

About the Workshop

Held alongside the exhibition The Secrets Women Hold, this 2-hour session invites participants of all ages—families, children (accompanied by an adult), and individuals—to pause, reflect, and reconnect with their personal stories through intuitive artmaking. Materials are provided.

You’re welcome to stay for the full two hours or leave earlier if needed.

Led by French artist and kindergarten educator Maïténa Etchebarne, the workshop begins with a short introduction to the exhibition and her artistic process—how she uses colour, photography, and memory to honour the women in her lineage.

You’ll then have time to create at your own pace, working with a printed family photo and a range of expressive materials. The session will end with an optional sharing circle, where you’re welcome to speak about your piece—or simply observe and hold space.

Whether you’re attending alone or with your children, this is a quiet, creative space to transform silence into expression and give new life to the stories we carry.

💌 What to bring

  • Email a meaningful old family picture before the workshop (so it can be printed in black and white)

  • If you’re attending with children, please let us know how many will be joining and their ages so we can tailor materials and support their experience

  • No art experience needed—just bring your story and your willingness to explore

🎨 What You’ll Do

  • Work with your own black & white family photo (printed in A4 for you)

  • Use paints, pencils, oil pastels, and collage to reimagine the image

  • Reflect intuitively—let your hands and heart guide the process

  • If attending as a family, collaborate with your child, allowing them to lead while you support and co-create, sharing the story behind the photo

📸 Your Story in the Exhibition

  • With your permission, your finished work can be digitised and added to a collective memory wall in The Secrets Women Hold, ensuring your story becomes part of the exhibition’s evolving tapestry
