Exploring Indigenous Art in the Classroom in a Culturally Respectful Way Melbourne

Are you and Educator that wants to explore Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art in a culturally respectful way but are unsure of how? Would you like to develop the knowledge set to teach a hands on process to create artwork based on Indigenous Art?

Join Torres Strait Islander artist, Deb Belyea, as she introduces you to her culture and art practice.

In this workshop you will learn the deeper meaning behind her artworks then get hands-on to create an art piece (collage from monotype prints) that is inspired by her artwork, Urab. This process can be added to your pedagogical practice regardless of whether you work in the Early Years, Primary, Secondary or Tertiary sectors.

Deb is a trained educator with over 20 years experience teaching in remote and regional schools. She has leadership experience and has a Bachelor of Arts (Visual Arts), Bachelor of Education (Secondary Humanities) and a Master of Social Science (majoring in Indigenous Studies). She is a workshop facilitator, public speaker and curriculum advisor (ACARA, Australians Together). As an artist, she was the winner of the 2024 National NAIDOC Poster competition (Urapun Muy), and has completed commissioned pieces for organisations (NITV, SBS on Demand, the Torres Strait Regional Authority, NRL Dolphins).
