Event description

🌍 Join Us for an Exclusive Climate Expedition Talk!

🚢 Dive into the breathtaking landscapes of Northwest Iceland and uncover the impacts of climate change on native vegetation with renowned climatologist and FAST! committee member, Dr. Hervé Quénol.

In August 2024, Dr. Quénol embarked on a groundbreaking mission in the Westfjords of Iceland, part of the "Scientific and Educational Expeditions" program by Arctic Lab. His research focuses on:

  • Studying fine-scale climate impacts on subarctic vegetation.
  • Deploying a network of temperature sensors influenced by local topography and proximity to glaciers.
  • Using high-resolution satellite imagery to build precise phenological models for future climate projections.

This cutting-edge work, conducted in collaboration with the University Centre of the Westfjords and CNRS/Université Rennes 2, sheds light on how shorter winters and changing vegetative cycles are impacting ecosystems, wildlife, and biodiversity in the Arctic region.
