In August 2024, Dr. Quénol embarked on a groundbreaking mission in the Westfjords of Iceland, part of the "Scientific and Educational Expeditions" program by Arctic Lab. His research focuses on:
- Studying fine-scale climate impacts on subarctic vegetation.
- Deploying a network of temperature sensors influenced by local topography and proximity to glaciers.
- Using high-resolution satellite imagery to build precise phenological models for future climate projections.
This cutting-edge work, conducted in collaboration with the University Centre of the Westfjords and CNRS/Université Rennes 2, sheds light on how shorter winters and changing vegetative cycles are impacting ecosystems, wildlife, and biodiversity in the Arctic region.
