New Zealand's productivity has consistently lagged behind other OECD countries, a gap that affects everything from wages to long-term economic resilience. This panel brings together government and industry leaders to explore a practical question: what would it take to effect improvements in a single sector?

What the panel will discuss:

Our panellists will unpack export education's potential as a paradigm for improving productivity. What improvements could be made and what impact they could have? Would a modest re-balancing of current investment and resources make a qualitative difference to improved productivity? (e.g. improving graduate satisfaction rates and repeat demand).

This is a practical look at export education's potential as a paradigm for change.

Intended for international education leaders, government officials and programme managers responsible for policy, strategy and investment decisions.

A moderated panel discussion (60–90 minutes), MC'd by ISANA NZ CEO, Chris Beard followed by audience Q&A.

Speakers

• Cameron Bagrie — Managing Director at Bagrie Economics. With a 30+ year career in banking and a strong background in economics and finance, Cameron is the former Chief Economist at ANZ and a widely respected commentator on New Zealand economic matters, known for his straight-shooting, no-nonsense approach and his commitment to improving financial literacy across the country.
  

• Kenneth Leong — Kenneth brings over 20 years’ corporate finance and international business experience across New Zealand and Asia. He specialises in mergers and acquisitions, cross-border transactions, capital raising and SME investment, with experience as both an adviser and owner-operator. A respected advocate for Asia–New Zealand business engagement, Kenneth has held senior governance and advisory roles, including Chairman of the ASEAN New Zealand Business Council. He is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors and a Trustee of the Asia New Zealand Foundation.
  
  

• Dr Angela Liew — Angela brings 25 years' experience preparing students for success in a changing world. Formerly at the University of Auckland Business School, she was repeatedly recognised for teaching excellence, bringing the changing realities of the professions into the classroom. Her contribution to international education extended beyond the classroom: she founded and managed an academic pastoral support programme for Asian students (earning an ISANA NZ Runner-up Award), served as an employability advocate for PhD and international students, and mentored international and migrant students, including at Victoria University of Wellington. She remains deeply engaged in the changing realities shaping the accounting and aquaculture professions through ongoing research, governance work and travel across Asia. She is a Fellow of CA ANZ and CPA Australia.
