Event description

As part of the University of Technology Sydney Graduate Certificate in Learning Design and the subject and the Crunch microcredential, we invite guest speakers to share their knowledge and experiences with our students (we call these our 'Expression Sessions'). Please join us for this Expression Session and meet Dr Antonette Shibani, Senior Lecturer, TD School, University of Technology Sydney.

In this session, Shibani will lead an exploration of a higher education case study, where her focus will be on emerging learning technologies like Learning Analytics (LA) and Generative AI (GenAI), are meaningfully integrated into classrooms. She will explore the key role of Learning Design (LD) in contextualising these technologies to align with specific pedagogical goals and classroom realities. The title for this talk is Aligning Emerging Technologies with Educational Practice: The Role of Learning Design.

About Shibani

Shibani is a Senior Lecturer in the Transdisciplinary School at the University of Technology Sydney and a member of the Centre for Research on Education in a Digital Society (UTS: CREDS). Her research sits at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence, Learning Analytics, and Learning Design, with a focus on co-designing tools and technologies that enhance teaching and learning practices—particularly in the area of writing support. More recently, her work has explored critical AI literacy in the age of generative AI, aiming to empower both learners and educators as they navigate AI-enhanced learning environments.
Shibani co-edited a Special Section on Generative AI and Learning Analytics in the Journal of Learning Analytics, proposing directions and recommendations to advance research, practice, and policy in this rapidly evolving field. She previously served on the executive committee of the Society for Learning Analytics Research (SoLAR) and co-hosted the podcast series SoLAR Spotlight: Conversations on Learning Analytics.
