Join us for a 6 week dive of somatic movement practice & dance training exploring embodied expression and creativity through the intelligence of the elemental and cyclical body to feel connected, vital & expansive in your movement.

Drawing from modern and tradtional dance techniques and inspired by nature. Our exploration ranges from Contemporary dance, Silvestre technique to Afro-contemporary and Afro Brazilian, somatic inquiry, functional movement and creative exploration, we cultivate physical awareness, movement intelligence and expressive capacity.

Inspired by the rhythms, patterns and intelligence of the natural world, we move through sensation, rhythm, flow, ritual and relationship, allowing movement to emerge from within rather than from fixed forms, in this way we decolonise dance, movement and our bodies.

At its heart, Expressions of the Elemental body is an exploration of movement as a way of connecting with ourselves, one another and the living world. It invites us to experience the body as a source of embodied knowing & wisdom, deepening our capacity to move with awareness, freedom and authenticity, and to discover how movement can become a form of relationship, ritual and connection to something greater than ourselves.

It is highly recommended to embark on the full 6-week journey, as each session builds on the last and allows you to deepen into the movement material and process. However, if you are unable to attend all six sessions, you will still receive a lot from each individual session.

About the facilitator:

Karina is a multidisciplinary dance artist, somatic movement practitioner and facilitator with a lifetime of experience in dance, movement and embodied practice. Her work is informed by a diverse movement lineage spanning contemporary and traditional folkloric dance from around the world, ancestral movement practices, somatic and functional movement, and her continual ongoing study of how dance shapes us as humans, communities and current cultures as a performative, relational and therapeutic expression.

Her approach is deeply rooted in the body as a source of intelligence, creativity, expression and connection. Informed from learning with Indigenous practitioners from different parts of the world on how dance is a communication vessel to the spirit realm, Karina explores movement as a living language shaped by culture, ancestry, environment and relationship. Through dance, somatic inquiry, improvisation and creative exploration, she invites people to develop physical awareness, movement intelligence and expressive capacity, while cultivating a more conscious relationship with themselves, one another and the living world.

Her practice is guided by a desire to honour the cultural and ancestral roots of movement, while questioning dominant approaches to dance and the body. She is interested in movement as a form of embodied knowing, creative expression, relationship and connection.
