Facing Up to the New Geopolitics in the Pacific

China’s foreign policy has become increasingly aggressive under Xi Jinping, and we can expect more of the same in the years to come. Foreign interference—united front work in CCP terms—is a key tactic of CCP foreign policy. This talk details the role foreign interference plays in Chinese foreign policy and China’s geopolitical agenda, focusing on China’s interests and activities in the South Pacific.
About the Speaker
Professor Anne-Marie Brady FRSNZ, Department of Political Science and International Relations, University of Canterbury, New Zealand is a specialist on CCP domestic and foreign policy, as well as China’s interests in the Pacific, Arctic, and Antarctic, and NZ foreign policy. She is Executive Editor of The Polar Journal. She is the author of 11 academic books, over 50 sole-authored academic papers, as well as opeds for newspapers such as New York Times, Washington Post, Financial Times, The Guardian, and The Diplomat. She leads an international research group, Coastwatchers 2.0, publishing on Pacific security issues.
