Event description

The UTS Faculty of Engineering and IT and the Faculty of Health are joining forces to host a special panel discussion for International Women's Day 2025, as we come together to reflect, advocate, and push forward in the global pursuit of gender equality and women’s empowerment.

This year’s theme, March Forward: For ALL women and girls calls for action that can unlock equal rights, power and opportunities to ensure no one is left behind. Central to this vision is empowering the next generation—youth, particularly young women and adolescent girls—as catalysts for lasting change.

This year also marks a pivotal moment in this ongoing movement, as we commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. Adopted in 1995 at the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, this historic document, endorsed by 189 governments, remains the most progressive and widely recognized framework for advancing women’s and girls’ rights worldwide.

So, please join us in celebrating International Women's Day with an exceptional lineup of guest speakers discussing their experience in breaking down barriers in academia through education and research. They will also provide perspectives on advancing gender equality, fostering inclusive environments, and empowering women within and beyond the university.

Our amazing lineup of guest speakers include:

  • Professor Peta Wyeth, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and IT (Panel moderator)
  • Professor Debra Anderson, Dean, Faculty of Health
  • Professor Angela Dawson, Associate Dean Research, Faculty of Health
  • Dr Faezeh Karimi, Acting Director, Women in Engineering and IT, FEIT
  • Dr Cecilia Gravina da Rocha, Senior Lecturer, Civil & Environmental Engineering, FEIT
  • Dr Ariba Abasi, Lecturer, Professional Practice & Leadership, FEIT

Drinks and food will be served right after the panel session!
