Fair Housing for Parramatta

Event description

NSW is experiencing a housing affordability crisis which means that we need to find ways to build more homes that suit a diverse range of family types, located in areas where people can thrive. If all the low paid workers move to places where they can find affordable accommodation, there are no essential workers left to keep our communities running well. Housing affordability impacts all of us.

The NSW government has set targets for new homes to be built in every LGA in Sydney, including Parramatta. By 2029 there will be 19,500 new homes built in Parramatta so we want to make sure development is done in a way that benefits locals, is environmentally sustainable, and creates more affordable homes for lower paid workers to live, where they work.

NSW local government elections are being held on 14 September and provide an opportunity to demonstrate public support for more affordable housing, so Sydney Alliance is running a candidates forum in Parramatta to try to work with the local council.

We will be learning more about the issue, asking for community support and seeking commitments from candidates for the upcoming Council election to further the development of affordable rental housing in our LGA.

Who will be attending?

All are welcome including:

  • People who live in the Parramatta LGA who are concerned about the growing unaffordability of this area and the impact it is having on our community life
  • People who may not live in Parramatta but wish to express support for more affordable rental housing in our area.
  • Candidates for the City of Parramatta Council election who have the responsibility to listen to their constituencies about their housing experiences.

REGISTRATION IS ESSENTIAL TO ATTEND THIS FORUM
